Cloth & Utensil Collection Camp for Uttarakhand | August 11 @ IIMC HQ

Dear IIMCians,

Nearly 2 months after the cloudburst that left Uttarakhand ravaged. 5,748 people assumed dead and losses are estimated to be above Rs.3,000 crore. There are still thousands of people struggling to pick up the pieces of their lives and livelihoods. In the worst natural disaster, to strike India, since the 2004 Tsunami, the people of Uttarakhand continue to live in inhospitable conditions.

Goonj– A Voice, An Effort, an NGO based out of New Delhi, working towards making clothing a matter of concern for all, has started a nationwide campaign to collect and distribute relief material to the people in Uttarakhand. Under their project Rahat, Goonj has partnered with several TV Channels as well as retail chains to streamline its efforts towards relief material collection. Started by Ashoka Fellow Mr. Anshu Gupta, an IIMC alumnus, Goonj has been working tirelessly for over a decade through their various projects and its efforts have been recognized through various awards.

The IIMC Alumni Association has decided to partner with Goonj this coming Sunday to facilitate a collection camp- AWAAZ– at the IIMC Headquarter, New Delhi Campus.

We appeal to all alumni to participate in AWAAZ and donate MaintainedWashed and Ironed Clothes as well as Washed Utensils. The collection camp will start at 2:00 PM and continue on till 5:00 PM, on Sunday, 11th August 2013.

Please remember that we are trying to restore someone's dignity and that can't be done unless we show respect to them by ensuring the clothes and utensils are in a good condition, clean, washed and sanitized.
